A New Beginning is a photography exhibition of 30 silver gelatine black & white print shots in Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Cambodia by award winning photographer Arthur Teng. This captivating exhibition also marks a new chapter for artist Arthur Teng as a freelance photographer, following his retirement as a graphic designer.

French artist Isabel Roelandts Fischer will be exhibiting a series of paintings at the Alliance Francaise this month. Isabel uses the pictures she took during her travels as the background for her paintings, mostly portraits. Most of the time, she uses her fingers to paint. Sir Roy Calne, eminent surgeon, researcher and award winner, is also an established artist. His works have been exhibited internationally, including in the US, throughout Europe and in Asia. Notably, his works have been included in shows at the Barbican Gallery and The Royal Academy, London. Presented here are a selection of works which will be shown in a long awaited solo exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, through Shalini Ganendra Fine Art. The exhibition will reflect the breadth of Calne’s skills, both as a sculptor and painter.

Jolly Koh is one of the Malaysian art movement’s pioneer modernists. This exhibition showcases a selection of paintings that span his entire practice, with an emphasis on his recent works from the last ten years. The exhibition boasts some of his most iconic romantic abstract landscapes expressed in his signature marriage of beautiful colors and dynamic marks.

Anthony Chan Sai Weng draws upon a wealth of natural beauty to create an expressive and vivid interpretation in abstraction from the Geopark landscape in Langkawi – the first to be declared in Malaysia and Southeast Asia as a UNESCO Geopark. From the inherent rock formation found in the landscape, the inland mountains and caves that make up the Machinchang range which dates back to some 400–550 million years ago, Chan rediscovers the natural beauty of the land, the people and their culture in his latest inspiring series.

‘I am here 1.0’ is a blend of pictures, videoprojections and voice soundtracks based on JF D-Philippot’s feelings about the city of Kuala Lumpur. The exhibition is an entirely new artwork especially created for the French Art Festival 2008. The interactivity of the even will be in further enhanced with the participation of students from the Faculty of Creativity at Limkokwing University.

The works for this exhibition reveal a side of Azril which reflects his morbid fascination with life, and is a photographic diary of Pudu Jail. The 50 photographs capture a side of Pudu Jail that not many have seen. After spending two and a half months observing the (by then) vacated Pudu Jail, Azril noticed that the prisoners who had occupied the cells had left their mark in more ways than one.

The Department of Performance and Media, Sunway University College is pleased to present its fourth batch of graduating students in a production of the critically-acclaimed play Equus, directed by lecturer Melissa Teoh. Equus tells the tale of a good hardworking stable boy who shocks his community by comitting a terrible crime.

Radhakrishnan is a sculptor who has been able to find a perfect balance in his works. His free hold bronzes attached only by a finger or a hand to a base find perfect harmony defying gravity. His works stand apart from other sculptors in India. Although committed to figure sculpture, he shows a deeper allegiance to the long tradition of modelling.

International award winning Malaysia born Artist C.N.Liew, advocates artistic authenticity and the philosophy of Zen Buddhism in his artwork. He is bringing calligraphy into another level by taking its strike forms and infusing them with vibrant colours and strokes that force the viewer to think outside the box. He calls this art form surrealigraphy. Sponsored by Alliance Bank, Protoforms will feature the world’s first 3D representation of Surrealligraphy in Sculpture. It is a monumental event for Malaysia as he is the first in the world to come up with this art form.

The works in this exhibition are inspired by Odissi, the Indian classical dance which has captured the imagination of Malaysians and the world. Featuring creative works —paintings, drawings, installations, contemporary photographs, and even archival materials. The exhibition will showcase specially commissioned works of some of the most distinguished artists from Malaysia and India, namely Sivarajah Natarajan, Renee Kraal, Yeoh Jin Leng, Syed Thajudeen, Dr Dinanath Pathy, Bayu Utomoradjikin, Jatin Das and AV Ilango.
