something fishy about this spa!

The next time you head to The Pavilion, pay a visit to Kenko Reflexology and Fish Spa. There, you can take a refreshing dip in a spa pool but be warned; this is an out of this world spa experience. Within seconds of dipping your feet into the pool, thousands of Garra Rufa fish, known as 'Doctor Fish' will surround your feet and give the best beauty treatment your feet can ever ask for. They hold the secret to smooth and glowing skin! The Garra Rufa's natural habitat is the water of a hot spring near Kangal, Turkey and it was there that the fish's unique healing power was first discovered decades ago. Later the treatment spread to Japan and now, to Malaysia at The Pavilion. Founder of Kenko Reflexology and Fish Spa, Dr Jimi Tan optimistically claims, 'Malaysians now have the opportunity to experience this magical healing treatment and pamper their feet in exchange for youthful glowing skin!' Want to find out just how magical it is? Have a dip and tingle your senses at this fish spa-the fishes will be delighted to meet you.

The Big Calm

As Malaysia steps into the new year, more and more Malaysians are embracing the ancient practice of yoga. In 2007, Malaysia hosted its very first yoga conference at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, inviting some of the most inspiring teachers from all around the world. This year, KL sees more yoga centres being opened around town, offering classes at affordable prices.

The practice of yoga is considered a pursuit of wellness, especially in today's age of modern living and stress. In 2002, Yoga Zone was established as an answer to that need. With establishments in ten locations in Malaysia, The Yoga Zone Group was recently awarded the Best Wellness Centre, along with three other awards - Best Yoga Centre, Best New Fitness Centre, and Special Achievements (Wellness Centre) - at the Malaysia Spa & Wellness Awards 2007 presentation night at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

Yoga, an ancient practice originating from India that is physical as much as it is spiritual, claims to bring benefits to the self including increasing flexibility, increasing lubrication of the joints, ligaments and tendons, and is also believed to be able to massage all organs of the body, besides providing detoxification, and toning of muscles. Those who practise yoga also claim to have a heightened sense of awareness and calmness to the mind and deeper relaxation to the body.

Yoga Zone, besides providing yoga classes, is also home to The Comfort Zone, considered the first massage studio in Malaysia with the concept of "full massage experience" through tailor-made massage by its in-house massage trainer.

For the ultimate experience in wellness, head down to any Yoga Zone outlets or visit their website at www.yogazone.com.my. The Comfort Zone are available at the Taman Desa and Plaza Damas establishments.

DIY Spa

It's an irony of modern life: here we are, stressed from work and the generalities of cosmopolitan existence, so much so that even getting to the spa is a chore. It's the thing that would, in fact, calm us down, chill us out and yet there's all the complications of choosing the place, selecting the treatment, and making a booking. It's almost as if the cure is as difficult as the disease.

For those that suffer from this condition, fear not, help is on the way. The new remedy is called Home Spa and it's as simple as some candles, aromatherapy and a bathtub filled with quality bath salts. The idea is that- instead of all the time and expense needed to go to a spa-the way to do it is at home, in a space that you take for granted. LO'ccitane, Crabtree & Evelyn and others are involved in the home spa game but few are as wholly dedicated as Harnn Home Spa, a new retailer in Bangsar Village II who specializes in all the things one needs to start their own home spa experience.

From the oils to the burners, Harnn is an excellent choice with a good eye for packaging aesthetics dipped in the ink of Balinese massage identity. If you're too busy to wind down, make one last pit stop at Harnn and DIY it.
