Jazz enthusiasts will be jumping for joy at the prospect of seeing the world class Guillermo McGill Quartet perform live at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre this October. Combining flamenco’s unrestrained passion with jazz’s improvisational nature, the Quartet deliver a unique sound that was first cultivated in the 1960s and 1970s by a certain Camarón de la Isla.
Uruguayan-Spanish drummer, producer and soul of the band Guillermo McGill will be joined on stage by Perico Sambeat on treble saxophone and Juan Diego Mateos on the Flemish guitar, both brilliant musicians that have pushed jazz in new directions and continue to inspire a new generation of musicians. Double bassist Javier Colina also joins the group, who together with Sambeat, featured on McGill’s most recent solo album.
Rounding out McGill’s Quartet is Reinier Elizarde, a Contrabass player who has been part of the renowned dance orchestra Pupy for four years, and who brings a wealth of knowledge in the jazz field to the table.
