Whether it’s a song about the struggles of the homeless or one of his many moving love ballads, Sheeran knows how to tug on the heart-strings with his poignant lyrics, artfully capturing emotions that put seasoned artistes to shame.
Having written for the likes of The Weeknd, Rita Ora, Olly Murs, Usher and Robbie Williams, it’s hard to imagine that his rise to the top wasn’t always as smooth as his angelic vocals – many would be surprised to know that the multi-platinum artiste spent the first few years of his career homeless, before being discovered by Jamie Foxx in 2010.
He went on to release his first album in 2011, titled simply +, which spawned the acoustic driven singles Give Me Love and Lego House; and X three years later, with Grammy’s Song Of The Year for the first single (and wedding-song favourite) Thinking Out Loud. Sheeran’s third album smashed streaming records on Spotify, launching four hit singles and prompting another world tour.
Famously singing and playing all his live shows with nothing more than a guitar and a loop station, Sheeran is a true talent. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch the red-headed phenomenon this 14 November when he lands in KL.
