The ink has dried and the dates are set! In a creative collaboration with PopDigital Sdn Bhd, British Council Malaysia has announced a bigger and better Cooler Lumpur Festival. The Cooler Lumpur Festival is filled with ideas and concepts that will transform the artsy grounds of Publika into an animated place packed with professionals and enthusiasts from multiple creative sectors, there to share their knowledge and thoughts.
The collaboration seeks to enrich Kuala Lumpur’s cultural horizon and to expand communities, invigorate talent and challenge ideas. Last year’s Cooler Lumpur Festival, titled #WORD, had great emphasis on literature. This year, the festival carries the theme #FAST, featuring a lively mishmash of flying ideas, interaction, and literature.
The festival Executive Director, Hardesh Singh, stated: “The Cooler Lumpur Festival offers something unique and necessary at a time when there are more festivals in Malaysia than ever before”. Singh also said that the festival encourages visitors to participate in the engineering and construction of Malaysia’s future instead of passively consuming the culture. Following this, he announced the line-up of events that will involve talks, workshops, kid-friendly activity, film screenings, a contest and more.
British Council Malaysia Country Director, Gavin Anderson, explained that British Council aims to “develop creative leaderships, professional networks and cultural educational programmes through Art”. To spearhead the creative direction, PopDigital has returned for a second year, bringing the best of British and regional artistic and creative talent in literature to build ties with the locals. Killing two birds with one stone, the project will also aid cultural relations, strengthening trust between the UK and Malaysia, as well as linking the sector with British Council throughout East Asia.
