Usher in 2013 at some of the citys’ most exciting and ‘explosive’ hotspots

New Year fire... pyrotechnic displays shower light on the city at midnight.

The year 2012 is almost at an end, and Kuala Lumpur has a wide variety of places where you can ring it out with style. Whether you are looking for somewhere subdued to romance a loved one, or the best bars in which to party with friends, below are some of the top venues for seeing in 2013 (notwithstanding the Mayan calendar apocalypse coming true, of course).

The massive fireworks display at KLCC, which can be seen throughout most of the golden triangle, is a major draw. For the best views, head up to Skybar at the Traders Hotel. Traditionally helmed by a top DJ spinning excellent dance music, this chic bar gives unparalleled views of the New Year’s pyrotechnics, stage performances and the crowds below – not to mention a breathtaking vista of the city. Lounge by the fringes of the pool while sipping signature cocktails – and welcome 2013 with a heavy dose of cosmopolitan glamour.

If you fancy a party with a heavy carnival atmosphere, head down to Changkat Bukit Bintang for the popular New Year’s street fiesta. Featuring a midnight countdown, good views of the KLCC fireworks, a huge selection of food and drink, and thousands of like-minded revellers, this party is certainly not for the agoraphobic; but a good time is guaranteed. Top spots to aim for are Frangipani – a sleek bar and restaurant that serves excellent French food (with a great crowd); The Whisky Bar – which offers 250 labels of the world’s finest, and an austere atmosphere to sample them in; and Twentyone – a quality restaurant with a dance floor upstairs featuring some great local DJ talent.

There she blows... the jaw-dropping fireworks display at Sunway Pyramid.

For families with kids in tow, Sunway Pyramid is the place to be. There is a multitude of attractions to keep everybody entertained, including an ice skating rink, a large water park, and a good selection of bars and restaurants for mum and dad. If you are concerned about missing midnight fireworks – don’t fret! Sunway showcases its own magnificent pyrotechnics display that rivals any other New Year’s party’s.

Of course, there are other venues for you to consider, but, this being a brief guide, we must direct you to our website, www.visionkl.com, for a comprehensive list of New Year’s celebration spots throughout the city and the country.

From all of us at VisionKL: Happy New Year, and make your resolutions count in 2013!
