Who’s worried about the end of the world, then? Certainly not KLites, who greeted 2012 with plenty of good cheer and a thunder of fireworks. From certain vantage points, one could see the fireworks displays almost competing against each other to be the loudest, brightest and most extravagant.

Then there were the accompanying concerts and parties to usher in the New Year, such as Encorp Strand’s Mystical Eve night, with performances by local artistes Pop Shuvit, Mizz Nina and Joe Flizzow, a laser light show and aerialists, and Vertigo Club KL’s NSFW Tracksuit Party featuring dubstep maestros Skream & Benga.

Sunway Lagoon turned its Surf Beach into a humongous countdown scene, while at Mutiara Damansara Commercial Centre, whole roads were closed off for the hottest Street Party in town.

At SohoKL, fireworks accompanied its music celebration Partyin’ thru the Decades, with hits from the 1960s through 2011, Sungei Wang Plaza rocked to the beat of hip hop, while Red Tomato Media’s My Fiesta featured local artistes and comedians.
